Vicki Golden (#4) had a solid start in the first moto and made a pass on Tarah Gieger on the final lap for a podium finish.
This past weekend at the Thunder Valley MX National went pretty well. I was happy to get on the podium in the first moto and I feel like I have a lot to build on for Red Bud!
The first practice was red flagged after two laps. (Mariana) Balbi unfortunately crashed pretty hard, but the good news is that she didn’t break anything and should be back racing in a few weeks. Like a lot of bikes, mine was a little down on power in the Colorado altitude, but my mechanic made some changes between practices and it felt pretty lively for the second practice.
I got a good jump off the gate in Moto 1 and came around this first turn in about 5th. I found some good lines and felt comfortable doing all the jumps. I was in fourth place in the final lap putting a charge on (Tarah) Gieger. She took an inside line and hit a hay bale and I moved into third for the checkers. It was a good feeling to back up on the podium.
Vicki Golden: “I guess I pushed a little too hard in a slick section and my front end washed out. I finished 10th overall.” – Moto 2
Moto two: Again I got a good jump on the start. The track was much rougher and slick in spots, but I still found some smoother lines again, and in the last lap I was in fourth, gaining on third. I was consistently doing one of the bigger jumps and gaining some time there. But I guess I pushed a little too hard in a slick section and my front end washed out. I finished 10th overall. I was disappointed about the overall, but in all happy with the weekend.
I am really looking forward to Red Bud this Saturday, July 2nd.
