Riding around the oval and slippery surface of the Autodromo de Aguascalientes was a highlight for Day 6.

Day 6 was another littered with timed stages which allowed the Ducati pilots to push their Multistrada 1200 street bikes to the limit without fear of oncoming traffic. Six sessions in the morning were followed by three in the afternoon which culminated in a unique test at the Autodromo de Aguascalientes. The oval car racing track features 16-degree banking and is 0.87 miles long. The bikes were given first rights and both pilots were eager to give it a shot.

Prior to the racetrack, the route was quite the opposite of the predictable oval. Roads during Day 6 were reportedly the worst yet with lots of rough and broken pavement. Sand washes had brought lots of the fine grit onto the road in certain areas and constantly kept the Multistrada living up to its reputation of a do-all bike.

The auto racers and Ducati’s small group stopped for the night in Aguascalientes. Only one day remains until the close of the event.

Day 6 brought with it a true test of the four-bikes-in-one concept for the Multistrada. From the cobblestone streets of Guanajuato to the high speed oval of the Autódromo de Aguascalientes, the bike’s versatility shined today and throughout this journey through Mexico.

the riders constantly on the lookout.

The pilots left the start line at 8:30 a.m. blasting through the tunnels of Guanajuato on their way towards the first speed stage of the day. There would be nine total speed stages culminating with a visit to the first official track stage of the week. The guys have really settled into their groove and are having a lot of fun. Carlin jumps off-road every chance he gets as we encounter lots of dirt roads running parallel to some of the transit stages and if traffic becomes a problem in town, he’s been known to hop the curb and take the sidewalk!

The surfaces of today’s roads were some of the most deteriorated we’ve seen yet. Sand and cracked pavement were everywhere, but the pilots prevailed as they had a safe day with no incidents. The highlight of the day had to be the Autódromo de Aguascalientes, a NASCAR-style track located just a short ride from the Aguascalientes city center. Piloting a bike on the high banks of an American NASCAR-style oval track was something new for Roland who followed Carlin’s lead. The track surface was extremely slick, but both had fun and the entire team enjoyed watching the cars go at it in what seemed to be a good old fashioned free for all.

Tomorrow is the last day of La Carrera Panamericana and while the effects of such a strenuous journey have set in for the entire team, we’re all looking forward to crossing the final finish line in Zacatecas and partaking in the legendary fiesta that will ensue.
