Troy Lee Designs doesn’t just make product for the world’s fastest racers, now it’s hooked up with some of the world’s scrappiest leprechauns. TLD is expanding outside of the motorsports industry and getting in with one of the oldest college football institutions in the country. The University of Notre Dame is taking on the University of Maryland in the Shamrock Series game this Saturday and will sport custom-designed and painted helmets by the crew at TLD.
This is a special off-site game held at FedEx Field in 2011 which allows the 11-time national championship team to sport different helmet, jersey, pants and shoes each year. This year the helmets feature a 24-carat gold leaf base and green shamrocks on each side and the Fighting Irish leprechaun on the back of the helmet. The leaf is applied by Jay Stemska and the decals are installed by Jason Navarette from TLD.
“Notre Dame football has one of the most iconic looks in college football, and to celebrate the Shamrock Series, our team wanted to create a special new element for their uniforms for Saturday’s game,” said Mark Daniels, director of football for adidas.
Aside from the helmets, the football players will don special green adidas TECHFIT jerseys, adidas adiZero gloves and white adidas cleats. The Maryland vs. Notre Dame game will be held at FedEx Field in Landover, MD., this Saturday, November 12. It will be broadcast on NBC at 7:30 p.m EST. The Shamrock Series will move to Chicago’s Soldier Field in 2012 against Miami, then to Cowboy’s Stadium against Arizona State in 2013.
