Only two weekends remain in the 2012 AMA Arenacross Series season, and tonight, the penultimate round of the championship will kick off from Reno’s Livestock Events Center for the first of two nights of action.

Last weekend, FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson took a big win inside Fresno’s Save Mart Center to claim his third victory of the year, and tighten up the Arenacross Class title fight with Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers.

The final 75 laps of the 2012 season are sure to be memorable thanks to Gibson’s latest triumph. While Bowers’ 18-point lead is still a comfortable one, anything can happen over the course of one of the final three 25-lap main events. Both of the championship leaders have found themselves on the wrong end of misfortune on multiple occasions this season, but they have also proven to be the best in terms of fighting back, which will play a major role in the outcome of the championship.

Should bad luck happen to either of these riders either tonight, tomorrow, or next weekend in Minneapolis, how he responds to the misfortune could ultimately make or break his title hopes. More often than not, this duo has found themselves linked up together out on the track, but Bowers has come out on top most of the time, leading the series with 10 victories. However, the momentum shifted into Gibson’s favor last weekend, and the veteran rider, and former AMA Arenacross Series Champion, knows better than anyone on how to capitalize on that.

This weekend marks the AMA Arenacross Series’ 22nd visit to the city of Reno for the longest-running event in the championship. The spacious floor space of the Livestock Events Center presents the unique opportunity for the track crew of the AMA Arenacross Series to get a little more creative and challenge the riders with obstacles they aren’t used to seeing from week to week. The end result is some of the best racing of the season, as competitors will often pull out all the stops for the chance to win at one of the most storied venues in the sport.

While all eyes will be on Bowers and Gibson and their continued battle for the crown, fellow race winners Chad Johnson, who rides for Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki, and Kelly Smith, of Team Faith KTM, will also be in search of more success as they go bar-to-bar for the third and final spot on the championship podium.

The Western Regional Arenacross Lites Championship will also embark on its final two rounds of the season, with 54 laps remaining in the 2012 season before a champion is crowned. Reigning Western Regional Champion Chad Cook once again finds himself in control of the title chase, but the HOK Racing Kawasaki rider holds just a 10-point lead over BNTQ.net Honda’s Kevin Markwardt. The competition in the division has been wild throughout the season, and any rider has a chance to take the checkered flag on any given night. This championship is nowhere close to being over.

The Livestock Events Center has been the permanent home of the Reno Arenacross since its inception in 1991. It is primarily home to rodeo contests, including the headlining Reno Rodeo. Situated on 43-acres of land, the center sits in a prime location and bears an astonishing 150 by 300 feet of floor space. It can seat 6,200 people, setting the stage for what is sure to be a packed house this weekend.

The action commences for the Reno Arenacross tonight at 7 p.m. PT, followed by another exciting night of action tomorrow, beginning at 7 p.m. PT. Amateur Day concludes the captivating weekend of racing on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. PT
