Promising young Yamaha road racer Cameron Beaubier, who finished third in this year’s Daytona 200, suffered an accident while riding his Zuma scooter on the street (no joke). Apparently the 19-year-old ran into something on the road and fractured his right knee cap and tweaked his wrist.

“I’m so disappointed to have injured myself, and in such an odd manner,” said Beaubier. “It happened so quickly, and I’m fortunate that there were no other vehicles around at the time. I’m not yet sure what my prognosis is for racing at Road Atlanta (April 20-22) in a few weeks, but I’m hopeful for a quick recovery.”

Right after the accident Beaubier had surgery to pin the bones together in his knee for a shorter healing process. His wrist will heal naturally. No word on who will fill his seat on the Yamaha Extended Service/Graves Yamaha team.
