Kawasakis Taylor Robert posted to great rides in the opening round of the 2012 WORCS season to take the early lead.
Taylor Robert holds on to his WORCS season lead, winning both Pro Saturday and Pro Sunday events in Arizona.

Kawasaki rider Taylor Robert claimed victory in the fifth round of WORCS racing at Surprise, Arizona. The six-time national champion outpaced second and third place finishers Mike Brown of KTM and Kawasaki rider Justin Soule on Saturday. On Sunday, Robert bested Kawasaki riders Bobby Garrison and Gary Sutherlin.
Robert swept both Saturday and Sunday races, but had to contend against Brown, second in series points, in Saturday’s contest. Brown scored the holeshot and came in just over one minute behind the Kawasaki rider, in spite of an injury to his lip from a rock that had kicked up from Robert’s rear tire. Brown later received seven stitches to seal the wound.

“The track was really nasty,” said Robert after Saturday’s race. “You had to search for lines and really use the whole track to avoid the holes and chop.”
Robert and Brown both lined up for Sunday’s race and the KTM rider took the holeshot once again, but on the third lap suffered a mechanical issue which caused him to pit and take a DNF for the session. Robert still had stiff competition in Garrison and Sutherlin, both of whom came in within a minute of Robert’s final time of 1:33:33.119.

Brown’s team manager Antti Kallonen commented in response to the technical issues the KTM faced in Arizona that, “we will do everything we can to make sure the situation is solved before the next race,” which will take place in Adelanto, CA on May, 18-20.
Robert remains the points leader in the series, with three first-place finishes and one second in the five races so far this season. Brown lags by only 25 points in second, and remains a contender for the top spot in series points despite his bad luck in Arizona. Bobby Garrison is only six behind Brown in third, and Justin Soule rounds out the top four with 173 points.
