The Husqvarna Rally Team will have the support of the BMW Group as they prepare for the 2013 Dakar Rally.
The Husqvarna Rally Team by Speedbrain can once again count on the support of the BMW Group in 2012. Husqvarna Motorcycles, a 100-percent subsidiary of the BMW Group, will provide technical support for the rally team from Stephanskirchen (GER). The 2013 Dakar and the preparations for the desert marathon are at the centre of this commitment.
Team Manager Wolfgang Fischer’s crew was responsible for BMW Motorrad’s return to the Dakar in 2011, and presented the manufacturer from Munich with its first stage win for ten years. In 2012 the team lined up at the desert classic with the Husqvarna TE 449 RR by Speedbrain, which was developed in Stephanskirchen, and came away with a stage victory and podium finishes on six of the fourteen stages.
“We are looking forward to supporting the Husqvarna Rally Team by Speedbrain on its Dakar mission,” said Klaus Allisat, Head of Husqvarna Motorcycles. “The Dakar is the most famous endurance rally in the world, and provides us with the perfect stage, on which to present our off-road expertise. We have the perfect partner in the Speedbrain team. Wolfgang Fischer’s team has already proven what it is capable of on numerous occasions in recent years, including at the Dakar.”
In preparation for the 2013 Dakar, the Speedbrain team, with the factory support of Husqvarna Motorcycles, will compete at the remaining races of the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship over the coming months, as well as lining up at the Oil Libya Rallye du Maroc in Morocco. The 2013 Dakar starts on 5th January 2013. The bike of choice is once again the Husqvarna TE 449 RR by Speedbrain. The engines will be built by Husqvarna Motorcycles at the company’s headquarters in Varese (ITA). Paulo Goncalves (POR) and Joan Barreda (ESP) have been confirmed as riders, with two further riders set to be announced at a later date.
“We are delighted that we can now count on, and plan with, even greater support from the BMW Group and Husqvarna Motorcycles in Varese,” said Speedbrain Team Manager Wolfgang Fischer. “As far as the riders and the technology are concerned, this makes it easier to prepare for the Dakar and the World Championship, which we are able to contest in full for the first time this year, thanks to this support. I would like to thank Hendrik von Kuenheim and everyone responsible at the BMW Group for putting their faith in Speedbrain. Thanks also to all the team members and riders who have shown enormous commitment to our project and helped win the trust of the BMW Group and Husqvarna Motorcycles. I would also like to thank Monster Energy, who have supported us from the word go, and on whom we can continue to count as a partner. Our goal is now to transfer our continuously growing experience into racing successes.”
