Champion Trikes and Lehman Trikes USA are poised to collectively be the ‘Leaders of the Three World’ after announcing Lehman’s acquisition by Champion Investments, Inc.

facilities in Spearfish, South Dakota, as the new owners of the three-wheeled motorcycle manufacturer say first they will concentrate on providing service parts for pre-existing models before returning to full operation.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to expand our business model,” said Champion Trikes VP, Jim Pinto.

With Champion Trikes, Champion Motorcycle Accessories International and Champion Sidecars now under the same umbrella as Lehman Trikes, the new collaboration is poised to be the largest trike-specific business in the world. The new arrangement will allow Champion’s Garden Grove facility to focus on sidecar and hard bag production while Spearfish can concentrate on producing full trike kits and conversions.

Lehman, whose trike conversions include a long list of manufacturers, from Harleys to Hondas, became one of the leaders in the three-wheeler world under the guidance of founder John Lehman. The company had been looking for a strategic business merger since last year, even considering the outright sale of the company. Back in November of 2011, it was reported that an investment firm was in the process of reviewing Lehman’s operations with the intentions of investing in the company, but that deal fell through. The company was dealt an even bigger blow when its namesake died unexpectedly back in January. Fortunately, this didn’t prevent the new acquisition from pushing through.

In the official press release, Craig L. Arrojo, CEO, of Champion Investments Inc. and Champion Trikes stated, “We are extremely proud and excited to announce the acquisition of Lehman Trikes into the Champion family of motorcycle related companies. They are an exceptional organization, firmly grounded in high quality products and exceptional customer service. Their ISO 9001:2008 speaks to their commitment.”

Mr. Arrojo added “Lehman Trikes USA was a fundamentally sound company, with a rich heritage. A combination of factors led to their cessation of operations. The early discontinuation of the Harley-Davidson services contract, along with a challenging economic environment and delays in new contracts were all ingredients. Lehman and Champion Trikes, in team, will enrich both companies and improve our mutual performance.”

The Lehman facility will be open during the Sturgis Rally 2012, where it generally has a strong presence, and its new owners encourage people to stop on by their Spearfish location for a tour of the company.
