Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Geico Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas earned his 22nd AMA Pro Daytona SportBike wim in Race 2 at Road America. Team Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo took second after a bad start left him in eighth through the first lap. The Triumph rider battled through the pack and was up to fourth after six laps. RoadRace Factory’s JD Beach took third just 0.009 behind DiSalvo at the checkers. Y.E.s/Graves/Yamaha’s Tommy Hayden finished in fourth and was followed by Ducshop Racing’s Jake Zemke in fifth.

“I made a good start and I tried to push and get into a good rhythm, to see if anyone could come with me to the front,” Cardenas said. “I knew the last two laps were important so when the time came, I pushed hard.”

Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier, the second place finisher in Race 1, was out front through much of the race and had a top two finish in sight. In the final lap, Beaubier lost his rear grip momentarily and went off the track into the grass. After recovering from a mild crash, the Yamaha rider remounted and finished 20th.

JD Beach’s third-place finish marks the first GoPro Daytona SportBike podium for the RoadRace Factory/Red Bull team. Beaubier’s teammate Tommy Hayden greatly improved his performance after an overnight engine change gave him the edge to remain in contention with the lead pack.

Cardenas remains in the points lead, nearly 50 points ahead of DiSalvo. The Triumph rider also held his points position and extended his lead over third-place rider Dane Westby of M4 Suzuki. Hayden stayed in fourth with the help of his Race 2 finish.
