Kenan Sofuoglu 54 took first in World Supersport.
Kenan Sofuoglu (54) took first in World Supersport and extended his points lead over Jules Cluzel in second.

Kawasaki Delta Fin’s Kenan Sofuoglu scored the World Supersport win at Misano, coming fast out of the start and leading every lap of the contest. The Turk is now the only rider in his class to have multiple race wins in 2012. PTR Honda’s Jules Cluzel took second just over one second behind and was the only one capable of keeping pace with Sofuoglu. Power Team’s Alex Baldolini got his first podium of the season with his finish in third, trailing the top two riders by 20 seconds. Close behind in fourth-place was Roberto Tamburini of Team Lorini followed by Ten Kate Racing’s Broc Parkes in fifth.

Bogdanka PTR’s Sam Lowes came into the Supersport race in pole position and was on pace to earn a podium, but on Lap 12 he went down. Though he was able to remount and finish the race, he couldn’t make up the ground he’d lost and came in 18th. “I had a good start and took the lead but I had to adjust my clutch straight away which wasn’t easy,” Lowes said afterward. “After five or six laps I got settled into a rhythm and started to make my way up to third position. After the crash I had to turn the electronics off because of a damaged sensor. The right foot peg was damaged and so was the brake lever so it was really difficult but I got back up and continued, bringing the bike home in the end.”

Sofuoglu extended his points lead by a sizeable margin. The Kawasaki rider came into Round 7 just five points ahead of Lowes, but now sits 22 points ahead of the new second-place rider, Jules Cluzel. Lowes earned no points at Misano and fell to third overall. Fabien Foret remains in fourth-place despite the fact that he has struggled in the previous four rounds to come anywhwere near the podium. Foret opened the season a dominant force, taking second in Round 1 and first in Round 2. Baldolini and Parkes reversed position in points standings after Misano with Baldolini taking a one point lead over the Australian in fifth.
