Husqvarna uses the G650GS engine to power a pair of new motorcycles, the 2013 TR650 Strada (top) and TR650 Terra (above).
Husqvarna uses the 652cc Single from parent company BMW to generate two new dual sport models for the 2013 lineup. The TR650 Terra is targeted at more light-duty off-road riding and the TR650 Strada aims at the urban crowd. They fill a hole left by the TE630 and SM630.
Husky tweaked the G650GS engine and claims it now produces 58 horsepower in the Italian trim. BMW’s version cranked out 41 HP and averaged 55 mpg in the Sertao model tested during our recent 650 Adventure Touring Shootout. Changes have been made to the fuel injection, camshafts, piston and cylinder head. It uses a higher compression ratio as the result, but the displacement is still 652cc. Husky give it the red color on the exterior of the cylinder head for the signature look. Both motorcycles use a right-side chain drive and left-side exhaust that splits into two cans.
A steel swingarm and split-backbone chassis support both models with the Strada rolling on 17-inch, 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels wrapped in Metzeler Tourance EXP tires. The Terra gets wire-spoke hoops for better off-road durability with a 21-inch front wheel and Metzeler Sahara Enduro 3 tires. It also uses a high front fender and has off-road styling on the bodywork that mirrors Husky’s pure dirt bikes. The Strada uses a low wheel fender and has only the slightest windscreen, giving it a naked street-fighter stance. Husqvarna says the Strada will weigh 414 pounds with a full tank of fuel, and the Terra is slightly lighter at 405 pounds. Unlike the GS models, the Huskies make use of a 46mm inverted fork. The shock uses a linkage system and both suspension components offer 7.5 inches of travel.
Braking is performed by a single disc front and rear with steel-braided lines. A Brembo two-piston caliper is mounted up front and single-pot unit on the rear. The Strada comes standard with ABS but the braking aid is not an option for the Terra model in North American markets. The 2013 TR650 Terra is listed at $6999 and the Strada will go for $7499.
