After achieving third and fourth place finishes in our recently published liter-bike shootouts (see 2012 Superbike Smackdown IX Track and 2012 Superbike Smackdown IX Street) Kawasaki is arming up its 2013 Ninja ZX-10R with a new electronically controlled steering damper.

Sourced from Ohlins, the damper is mounted behind the triple clamp and is controlled automatically via a combination of the bike’s internal sensors and a separate ECU. The latest generation ZX-10R doesn’t have excessive headshake or instability issues so this update is a tad curious. The change comes at a cost of $300 with the ’13 model retailing for $14299. Kawasaki also offers a model with anti-lock brakes for a $1000 upcharge.
