Yamaha’s Josh Hayes schooled the competition in Sunday’s final American SuperBike race from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Staring from pole position, Hayes was in command from the start establishing a blistering pace that no one could even come close to matching. He led every one of the 23-laps and finished nine-seconds ahead of second-place.

Suzuki’s Blake Young narrowly edged out Hayes’ teammate Josh Herrin after a four-way battle for second-place between Buell’s Danny Eslick and Jordan Suzuki’s Ben Bostrom. With only a few laps to go Young passed Herrin for second-place. It appeared that Herrin was going to be unable to retaliate until he made a daring inside pass on the final lap. Young stayed with him through and were able to draft by two-hundredths of a second at the finish line.

“It was a pretty good race for us today,” said Young. “We made it hard for ourselves not having a good qualifying yesterday. Just finding rhythm and getting it together. We got it together by race time and I’m happy with second today… but I want to get back up into the front. It’s been a tough year for us—I can’t tell you what the problem is.”

Eslick finished fourth-place, just under four-tenths of a second behind Young/Herrin. Ben Bostrom slotted in fifth position in front of the second Buell piloted by Geoff May.
