Ben Spies Yamaha MotoGP 2012
Ben Spies recently announced, via Twitter, that he will not ride for Yamaha Factory Racing in 2013.

Ben Spies riled-up the Twitter-sphere on Sunday, giving rise to speculation that he will leave Yamaha after the current season. Spies first posted that “u can say next year will be a bit diff I’d say. Excited at all prospects stay tuned,” followed soon after by “I thought I’d be dramatic like all the sites and reporters are haha maybe nothing changes except to be back were we are meant to be!”

Speculation on Spies’ future has been growing in intensity over the past weeks. Spies’ underwhelming performance through the first half of this year has left many wondering where he will be in MotoGP at the end of the current season. Tech 3 satellites have regularly finished ahead of the American rider and there appear to be no factory seats available, as rumors suggest current Ducati rider Valentino Rossi may return to Yamaha.

Early Tuesday on Spies’ Twitter feed, he linked to an article on Superbike Planet. In the article Spies states that he won’t be with Yamaha at the end of the season. The optimism of the former AMA and World Superbike champion’s recent tweets suggests that he is open to any opportunity. His most recent thoughts, at the time of writing, sum things up nicely: “I’m extremely happy to push for the rest of the season to my fans and myself, next year starts a new chapter. And yes I’m pumped!”
