American Honda rider Ashley Fiolek returned to Women’s Motocross and took the win in Moto 1 at RedBud. Fiolek missed out on the previous round due to a concussion which kept her from being fit to ride at High Point. Lucas Oil Honda’s Tarah Gieger secured the second spot on the podium and Munn Racing’s Sara Pettersson took third.
Current championship points leader Jessica Patterson of Rockstar Energy Racing broke her hand in preparation for RedBud, but still lined up to try and salvage some points. JP$ came across the finish in 15th.
Fox Racing’s Jacqueline Strong missed the rostrum by over nine seconds in fourth and she was followed by Kasie Creson in fifth. Creson ran in third during the opening laps of the moto, but was unable to turn her good start to a podium finish.
Fiolek earned her second moto win at RedBud after Gieger fell out of the lead late in the race. Fiolek had a comfortable lead ahead of second-place finisher Balbi, coming across the finish over 30 seconds ahead. Creson rounded out the podium, making it a 1-2-3 finish for Honda.
Strong took her second fourth-place finish, followed by Pettersson in fifth. Gieger maintained position after falling behind in sixth to the finish with KTM rider Alexah Pearson in seventh. Patterson returned to compete in Moto 2 and took 14th.
Despite riding with an injured hand, JP$ was able to maintain her points lead ahead of Gieger who remains in second. Fiolek jumped from fifth to third after her impressive performance at RedBud and Balbi holds steady in fourth.
