Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Yamama Extended Service’s Cameron Beaubier took his third AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike win in Race 2 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Race 1 winner Dane Westby of M4 Suzuki trailed in second and Meen Motorsports’ Bobby Fong took his first podium finish of the season in third. Current championship points leader Martin Cardenas of Geico Suzuki was pushed out of the top three during the intense battle out front and finished fourth with Beaubier’s teammate Tommy Hayden rounding out the top five.

“My team gave me an awesome bike and I’m doing everything I can after my injury to get into shape and win some races,” said Beaubier. The Yamaha rider suffered an off-track injury earlier in the season which took him out of round at Road Atlanta.

The battle was intense off the start as Cardenas and Team Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo duked it out for the lead. In the early laps DiSalvo encountered bike issues and headed to the pits, dropping from second to last. Westby and Beaubier moved up and displaced Cardenas to third.

A mid-race red flag sent all riders to the pits. After the restart, the Colombian rider regained the front, but a six rider battle for the lead allowed for a number of position changes before the checkers. In the end, Beaubier prevailed by less than a second ahead of Westby. Fong put together one of his best performances all season, sitting as high as second-place at times during the melee out front.

Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Cory West held to sixth despite pressure from LTD Racing’s Huntley Nash, coming in on West’s rear tire in seventh. RoadRace Factory’s JD Beach earned eighth and West’s teammate Joey Pascarella came across the finish in ninth.’s Austin Dehaven rounded out the top ten.

Cardenas remains the ovearall leader by 40 over Westby in second. Hayden holds steady in third, but Beaubier is approaching fast, up from fifth to fourth and just nine points behind. DiSalvo fell to fifth after his disappointing Race 2 showing.
