Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez earned his first East Division win in Race 1 of AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli was the only rider near Dominguez, finishing nearly two seconds behind. Kneedragger.com’s Stefano Mesa earned third-place after a hard-fought battle between three riders for the final step on the rostrum.

Dominguez opened Race 1 in pole position, but had a terrible start which put him back to seventh through the first lap. It wasn’t long before the Triumph rider regained his position out front though, and once in the lead had little pressure from behind. Rispoli kept within a reasonable distance, but was unable to find the opportunity to pass before the checkers.

“Unfortunately, I got a horrible start again and had to work my way through some traffic,” Dominguez said. “But the bike is just handling awesome. I just tried to ride a consistent race. We’re just happy to be here and get pretty much every point we’ve gotten this weekend; it really helps at this time of the year. Hopefully we can continue this positive momentum and go out and do it again tomorrow.”

Mesa, RFC’s Ryan Kerr and RoadRace Factory’s Tomas Puerta made up the three rider battle for third-place. Kerr and Mesa traded positions a number of times, with the Yamaha ace taking the podium on the final lap of the race. Puerta kept pace with the two, keeping within a fraction of a second of the battle, but was unable to push past.

Noticeably absent from the front, much less the top ten, was current East Division points leader Jake Lewis of Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki. Lewis finished Race 1 in 11th, owing largely to a difficult start to the Buckeye Weekend which left him coming off the grid in 10th.

Despite his difficulty, Lewis remains in the East Division points lead. Dominguez now sits in second, just 18 points from the lead. Mesa dropped one position into third and Puerta remained steady in fourth.
