Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Ashley Fiolek went 1-1 at Washougal.
Ashley Fiolek had a perfect weekend at Washougal.

Muscle Milk Honda’s Ashley Fiolek took the front early and held the lead to the checkers, beating out rival Jessica Patterson of Rockstar Energy Suzuki. Just three weeks ago after the X Games, Patterson broke her wrist, but she has continued to compete and posted her strongest showing in Moto 1 at Washougal since the accident. Lucas Oil TLD Honda’s Tarah Gieger rounded out the podium in third.

Patterson pushed hard against Fiolek in the early laps of the moto, but remained steady in position rather than take an aggressive line and finished over four seconds off the lead.

MotoConcepts’ Mariana Balbi challenged Gieger for third for much of the moto, but was unable to make the pass and finished in fourth. Munn Racing’s Sara Pettersson took fifth in front of KTM’s Alexah Pearson and Mach 1 Motorsports’ Hailey Larson, who took sixth and seventh, respectively.

Fiolek made it a perfect day, beating out Gieger in second and Balbi in third in Moto 2. Fiolek came off the grid out front and battled for the lead with Patterson. The Suzuki ace got out front after the opening laps and held the lead until the final minutes. Patterson then hit a rough spot and fell back to ninth, she was only able to recover for eighth by the checkers.

Pettersson took fourth with Fox Racing’s Jacqueline Strong in fifth and Larson in sixth. Kasie Creson took seventh followed by Patterson in eighth, Pearson in ninth and Street King’s Sade Allender rounding out the top-10.

Patterson remains in the points lead, though Gieger has moved to just two points shy of JP$’s lead. Fiolek continues to hold steady in third, 11 points off the lead and 32 ahead of Balbi in fourth. Strong and Creson, in fifth and sixth, respectively, are separated by just one point.
