Sam Lowes took home the win in World Supersport.
Sam Lowes now sits second in overall points behind Kenan Sofuoglu after taking the win in World Supersport at Aragon.

Bogdanka PTR Honda’s Sam Lowes earned his second win of the season in World Supersport under unusual circumstances. Kawasaki Lorenzini’s Kenan Sofuoglu physically crossed the finish in first, but mid-race pushed too aggressively against second-place finisher Fabien Foret of Kawasaki Intermoto Step and was dropped down the finishing order to fifth due to the penalty. Sofuoglu’s teammate Sheridan Morais rounded out the podium in third.

Just after the warm-up lap, a red flag was thrown which delayed the official start for over half an hour. PTR Honda’s Jules Cluzel came out of the start once the race began and took the lead for the first two laps. Cluzel then went down on Turn 14 and did not return to the race due to bike damage. Sofuoglu then got to the front and held there until Lap 10 where Lowes was finally able to pass. Lowes held the lead until the final laps when Sofuoglu regained the front, but due to the penalty he’d incurred the Kawasaki rider would be relegated to fifth. Lowes was back in seventh through the opening laps but was able to push through the pack and battle with Sofuoglu and eventually take the win. Foret had a better start and never fell back further than fifth-place during the contest.

“It was difficult in the end because I knew Kenan had a penalty and I was actually in first position but I rode my race and it was good,” Lowes said after the race. “Already yesterday I knew I had a good race pace and just needed to get a good start from fifth and then hang in there. I just put my head down and got into my rhythm. I took my time because I knew it was going to be a long race.”

Ten Kate Racing’s Broc Parkes trailed Morais in fourth, followed by Sofuoglu in fifth and Cluzel’s teammate Ronan Quarmby in sixth.

Despite the penalty and losing position at the finish, Sofuoglu remains the points leader at 117. Lowes moved up to second and is just 16 behind the Turkish rider. Cluzel fell to third and is just one point ahead of Foret who remains in fourth. Parkes got past Alex Baldolini of Power Team by Suriano and now sits fifth overall.
