Taylor Robert secured the 2012 WORCS Title after sweeping the Cahuilla Creek MX.
Taylor Robert and his Monster Energy Kawasaki crew are all smiles as they accept the 2012 WORCS title.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert secured the 2012 WORCS title after winning both the Pro Saturday and Pro Sunday motos at Cahuilla Creek MX. JCR Honda rider Tim Weigand went 2-3 and earned second overall and Kawasaki’s Robby Bell posted a 3-5 finish, earning him the final step on the podium. With just one round remaining, Robert’s sixth win of the season was enough to make him untouchable.

“It feels incredible,” said Robert. “I’ve worked really hard to get this title, and it means even more because I was so close last year. To win as many races as I have this year, I couldn’t have done it without everyone at Monster Energy Kawasaki. I can’t thank everyone enough.”

Robert faced stiff competition on Saturday, but was able to build a gap of 20 seconds on Weigand by the checkers. Bell was an additional five seconds back in third. On Sunday, Robert came out and outpaced KTM rider Josh Strang by over a minute and Weigand lagged behind in third by nearly one minute more.

The closest contender to the title coming into Round 9 was Robert’s teammate Bobby Garrison, but injuries kept him from finishing within the top three in either moto and he finished fifth overall. Strang went 8-2 and finished ahead of Garrison in fourth.

The final round is set for September 7-9 at Honolulu Hills in Taft, California. Garrison has a 42-point advantage over Bell, who sits third overall. Ryan Abbatoye, who took sixth at Cahuilla Creek, sits behind Bell in fourth overall, trailing by 21.
