Ashley Fiolek went 1-1 at Southwick and moved into second overall.
Ashley Fiolek tightened up the points race in Women’s Motocross, taking first in Moto 1 at the Moto-X 338 National.

American Honda’s Ashley Fiolek got to the front early on and held through all of Women’s Moto 1 for the win at the Moto-X 338 National in Southwick, Massachusetts. Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Jessica Patterson trailed over eight seconds behind in second and Lucas Oil’s Tarah Gieger rounded out the podium.

Fiolek and Patterson battled in the opening laps of the moto, with JP$ keeping pace with the defending champion. Fiolek was solid on the sandy track though and Patterson couldn’t find a line to get by, eventually losing sight of the Honda rider in the final laps of the contest. Gieger was lonely in third, over 26 seconds behind Patterson and 25 ahead of fourth-place finisher Sara Pettersson of Munn Racing.

Fox Racing’s Jacqueline Strong held to fifth with Street King’s Sade Allender following in sixth. Mariana Balbi took seventh with KTM’s Sarah Whitmore finishing in eighth.

Fiolek took the win again in Moto 2, well ahead of Patterson in second. Balbi improved her showing at Southwick by earning third.

Early in the moto, Fiolek and Patterson were caught in a close battle for the front, with the Honda rider holding strong to the lead. Patterson was right on Fiolek’s rear tire for the opening laps, but slipped back mid-moto as Fiolek opened the gap to over 17 seconds. JP$ rallied as best she could, but finished just over 11 seconds back. Balbi moved into the final podium spot when Gieger slipped from third to fifth. Pettersson held steady in fourth for the majority of the contest.
Patterson remains in the points lead, but now has Fiolek, who moved up to second overall, just five points back. Gieger slipped down to third and Balbi holds steady in fourth. Pettersson jumped past Balbi into fifth and Kasie Creson fell back to seventh.

Jessica Patterson went 2-2 at Southwick and sits just five points ahead of Ashley Fiolek.
Jessica Patterson is just five points ahead of Ashley Fiolk as they prepare for the final round of 2012.
