Today Ducati released preview information on their new for 2013 Multistrada models. The new models feature a second-generation Testastretta 11º engine, the very latest ABS system, updated aesthetics and, on the “S” versions a semi-active suspension system called Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS). The Audi-owned Italian manufacturer added owner-inspired improvements to the brand new range in this next stage of the Multistrada’s development cycle.
The 2013 Multistrada 1200 gets the very latest ABS system (if that means “new” or just “updated” remains to be seen at this time) with its Ride Mode technologies of Ride-by-Wire and Ducati Traction Control (DTC). Sharing the same features along with the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension, side luggage, heated grips and a center stand is the Multistrada 1200 S Touring. A new touring flagship joins the line-up as well called the Multistrada 1200 S Granturismo. Features include larger side luggage, a top case, additional LED illumination, enhanced wind protection and long-distance tires. Finally a replica of the 2012 Pikes Peak racer is added to the range dubbed the Multistrada S Pikes Peak, wrapped in race livery.
Details are scarce, but worry not. In eight days from now we will be testing the new models at the press introduction in Bilbao, Spain. Rain is forecast so we may have a perfect opportunity to test out the ABS system and DTC in the worst possible scenario. Myself, I’m hoping for sunshine or at least dry pavement to really put the DSS to the test. Either way, we will have plenty to report shortly after.
The first public showing of the 2013 Multistrada range will be at the INTERMOT motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany on October 3rd. Ducati reports the new models will be available at dealers in December. Stay tuned for more updates and specs as they become available.
