Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Cameron Beaubier took the win in Daytona SportBike Race 2.
Cameron Beaubier took charge of the front early and went on to win Daytona SportBike Race 1 at Homestead-Miami.

Yamaha Extended Service’s Cameron Beaubier held the lead through the checkers in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 1 at the Triumph Big Kahuna contest at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He was followed by Geico Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas in second and Meen Motorsports’ Bobby Fong in third.

Cardenas came off the start in the lead, holding steady through the opening laps. Beaubier was right behind though and he made a pass for the front three laps into the contest. Once in the lead, the Yamaha ace could not be caught. At one point, Beaubier had almost four seconds on Cardenas, but by the end the Colombian rider was able to cut the gap to just over one second. Fong never found a line past Cardenas in the contest as he was engaged in a fierce battle for third with M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby. The two riders traded positions a number of times before the end, but Fong prevailed after building a gap on Westby to over three seconds.

Road Race Factory’s Jake Gagne finished in fifth, followed by Ducshop Racing’s Jake Zemke.’s Tommy Aquino held to seventh and Team Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo finished in eighth. DiSalvo came off the start in the lead pack, but he was unable to keep pace with the front-runners and slipped in position mid-race. He ended the day over 20 seconds off the lead. Aquino’s teammate Austin Dehaven took ninth and Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Joey Pascarella rounded out the top 10.
