James Rispoli took the AMA Pro SuperSport Race 1 win at Miami, prevailing after a fierce battle for the lead.

Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli held the front through the checkers despite intense pressure from a number of other riders in AMA Pro SuperSport Race 1 at the Triumph Big Kahuna contest in Miami. He was followed by’s Stefano Mesa in second and Road Race Factory’s Tomas Puerta rounded out the podium.

Rispoli, Mesa, Puerta, Rider’s Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis and Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez battled for much of the first half of the race, trading positions through every lap. Rispoli and Mesa eventually built a small gap on Dominguez, who held to third until the final laps when he dropped out of contest. Mesa and Rispoli were left to fight it out for the lead once Dominguez dropped to the back of the pack, with Puerta finishing over two seconds behind the two front-runners. Lewis ended the day in fourth, though he was right on Puerta’s rear tire at the end, coming in just 0.043 behind the Yamaha rider.

National Guard’s Corey Alexander took fifth and Puerta’s teammate Hayden Gillim finished in sixth. Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman took seventh and Yamaha Extended Service’s Garrett Gerloff came in eighth. Gerloff tried to find a line through the pack, moving up from outside the top ten early in the contest, but was unable to make up enough time to reach the lead pack.
