Dustin Dominguez - Laguna Seca 2012.

Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez took a dramatic win in AMA Pro SuperSport Race 2 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The final running order was called on the 15th lap, when Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli was just 0.013 seconds behind the Triumph rider. Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis rounded out the podium.

Dominguez and Rispoli were locked in a nail-biting battle, each rider holding laps in the lead. Going into the 16th lap, Rispoli made a charge for the front and got past the Triumph rider. Dominguez was incensed and tried to regain the lead, but while attempting to pass a lapped rider, Babuska Racing’s Chris Starke, he made contact and sent Starke to the tarmac. The incident forced officials to throw the red flag and call the contest.

“The race was going good and James and I were going at it,” Dominguez said. “It was unfortunate there at the end. We got into lapped traffic and kind of collided there. I feel horrible — it’s probably one of the most uncomfortable wins I’ve ever had. I wish it would have come down to the end.”

Lewis fared much better than in Race 1, where he placed 15th. National Guard’s Corey Alexander was in a pack of riders pushing for the final spot on the rostrum, trailing Lewis by 0.029 seconds at the checkers. Yamaha Extended Service’s Garrett Gerloff was right behind in fifth, having pushed his way through much of the top ten earlier in the contest.’s Stefano Mesa finished sixth followed by Road Race Factory’s Tomas Puerta in seventh.

Dominguez now claims a 30 point advantage in SuperSport East points over Lewis. Mesa remains in third and Puerta fourth with Alexander rounding out the top five.
