Kenan Sofuoglu 54 leading Jules Cluzel 16 and Broc Parkes 23 at Nurburgring.
Kenan Sofuoglu (54) has a 38 point advantage with just two rounds left in the 2012 World Supersport championship.

Kawasaki Lorenzini’s Kenan Sofuoglu put in a dominant performance in World Supersport at Nurburgring. The Turkish rider got to the front in the first lap and led for the entire contest. PTR Honda’s Jules Cluzel, the fastest rider in qualifying, trailed just 0.541 behind in second. Kawasaki Intermoto Step’s Fabien Foret rounded out the podium.

“I raced here for the first time in 2002, in a one make championship, and although I have come here many times since I could never win the race,” said Sofuoglu. “Finally I have won this race and I’m happy about it. My career really started in Germany so it is nice to win the race here.”

Sofuoglu and Cluzel went head-to-head, both riders slotting into their final finishing positions in Lap 1. The battle for third was much more volatile though, with Foret fighting again Ten Kate Racing’s Broc Parkes and Bogdanka PTR’s Sam Lowes. Parkes got the upper hand early on, but fell to Lowes who pushed for position on Lap 5. Foret then made his move a few laps later and proceeded to duke it out with Lowes for the final spot on the rostrum. Lowes was running in third on Lap 15 when he crashed, and though he was able to remount and finish the race, he came across the finish in 13th.

“I’m really angry,” said Lowes. “I’ve made a mistake and lost the front. I’d like to apologize to everyone, both the whole Bogdanka PTR Honda team and our fans. There are still two races to go until the end of the season so let’s go out and finish the year on a high at Portimao and Magny Cours.”

Parkes eventually took fourth, followed by Power Team by Suriano’s Alex Baldolini. PRORACE’s Gabor Talmasci took sixth, with Baldolini’s teammate Vittorio Iannuzzo behind in seventh. Gerin Skm Racing Team’s David Linortner finished eighth, while Cluzel’s teammate Ronan Quarmby and Team PATA by Martini’s Massimo Roccoli took ninth and 10th respectively.

Sofuoglu extends his points lead to 38 over Cluzel. The Kawasaki rider has four wins to his credit this season and is on pace to earn his third World Supersport title. Foret moved ahead of Lowes into third overall, and Parkes sits in fifth.
