AMA veteran Michael Barnes claimed his second career victory in the Vance & Hines XR1200 class with a win at Miami. The KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley-Davidson rider beat season long rival Tyler OHara at the line, with Travis Wyman rounding out the podium. The points leader heading into Miami, Benjamin Carlson, finished fourth.

Homestead-Miami Speedway is the home circuit for Barnes, and the 43-year-old made the most of his visit. While the podium finishers maintained the top-three pace throughout the race, Barnes patiently held third. In the closing laps OHara and Wyman swapped position for the lead, but Barnes waited until the final lap to make his move around OHara and grab the checkers.

The battle for fourth featured Jake Holden and Carlson. Holden retained the position and was en route to a possible podium challenge when he dropped off the pace. A faulty shifter appeared to hinder the former BMW SuperBike competitor, with Holden going on to finish 11th.

Kyle Wyman, winner of four XR1200 races this year, did not compete in the Miami race. The KLR Group rider watched his teammate claim victory from the pits due to injury.

Barnes moves into the points lead with the win. OHara is second and only two points off the leader, with the Bartels Honda rider benefiting from the pole and most laps led bonus points. Carlson drops to third, eight points behind the leader, followed by the fifth-place finisher at Miami, Michael Corbino. The Wyman brothers are tied at 1062 points.
