For 2013 Yamaha has updated its FZ8 with an upgraded suspension package for better performance. Styling changes provide for a more attractive appearance.
Yamaha has introduced a updates for its 2013 Yamaha FZ8. The middle sibling in the FZ collection, the FZ8 sits between the smaller displacement Yamaha FZ6 and larger 999cc FZ1. For 2013 Yamaha refreshes its middleweight standard with styling updates and more suspension adjustments.
The 2013 FZ8’s 43mm inverted fork now offers pre-load and rebound adjustability on the fork cap while also receiving compression adjustability on the fork bottom. To go along with shock pre-load adjustability as seen on the 2012 model, the bike now features new rebound adjustability as well as a stiffer rate shock spring. Both the fork and shock provide riders with 5.1 inches of suspension travel.
The chassis consists of a cast aluminum frame and uses the engine as a stressed member for rigidity. The rigidity is achieved through a six-point engine mounting system. To help save weight, Yamaha incorporates a controlled-fill aluminum die-cast swingarm. The geometry of the chassis includes a 51% front wheel weight bias to allow for a more aggressive riding style.
Stopping power is provided by dual 310mm front hydraulic discs squeezed by R6-inspired monobloc four-piston calipers. Rear wheel stopping power consists of a single 267mm disc.
Cosmetic updates for 2013 include a new, higher quality seat cover composed of suede-like side panels and a textured top surface to not only improve seat grip but also its appearance. The dual textured seat material complements the bike’s matte gray/matte black finish enhancing the visual appeal of the entire bike. A new muffler shape gives the FZ8 a more modern and attractive scheme as well.
For 2013 the FZ gets new fuel injection settings for a sportier engine feeling and quicker rev to enable a more direct feeling from the throttle to the rear wheel. The 779cc liquid-cooled, Inline Four is derived from the earlier generation
Yamaha YZ-F R1. The same cases are utilized but a different crankshaft and top end are used. The engine is designed to provide the most usable power and torque in the low to mid rpm range. Fuel injection with 35mm throttle bodies provide the FZ8 with smooth throttle response for precise power delivery across the rpm range. The second and third cylinder intake funnels are 25mm longer than the outside cylinders, providing the FZ8 with its punchy torque delivery. A close-ratio six-speed transmission completes the powertrain package.
The 2013 FZ8 sits on five-spoke 17-inch cast aluminum wheels wrapped in a 120/70 radial front tire and 180/55 rear tire designed for optimum traction. The FZ8 has a claimed weight of 467 pounds which includes a full 4.5 gallon fuel tank and all fluids. The FZ has an estimated fuel economy of 39 mpg and comes with a price tag of $8890. Expect to see the 2013 Yamaha FZ8 in dealerships come February.
