Cole Martinez took the overall win in the 250A class, going 2-2 at Arizona Cycle Park on the first day of race action in the 2012 AMA Western Pro-Am.

The 2012 AMA Western Pro-Am kicked off at Arizona Cycle Park with a day full of racing action, highlighted by two 250 A motos and the first of two FMF 2-Stroke Challenge contests. Overall it was Cole Martinez who prevailed in the 250 A class, taking the top-step with his 2-2 finish, followed by Blake Lilly in second who went 1-3 on the day and Austin Burns rounding out the podium.

Lilly was uncatchable in the first 250 A moto, getting the lead early on and building a significant gap on the field before the checkers. Martinez held strong in second despite pressure from the likes of Buddi Bruner and Rhett Urseth, who finished third and fourth respectively. In Moto 2 Burns made up for a disappointing Moto 1, where he placed outside the top-five, taking the win ahead of Martinez. Lilly held on for third while Bruner dropped a position to fourth with Urseth trailing again in fifth.

The FMF 2-Stroke Challenge brought together a field of riders enjoying a “run-what-you-brung” contest for 2-stroke machines only. Anthony Defazio put in a commanding performance, getting the holeshot and holding the lead to the checkers. Cody Nobles took second, followed by Austin Myers in third and Preston Joy in fourth. Troy Allen rounded out the top-five.

The 2012 AMA Western Pro-Am gives professional riders the chance to move up the ranks and gives amateurs a shot at gaining AMA points on the West Coast. The folks at USASportMotocross provide full coverage of Saturday’s race action in the Western Pro-Am 2012 Insider Report below.
