KTM gets the 2012 EICMA party started by releasing teasers of its new 1290cc naked prototype suspected to be the new 1290 Super Duke.
KTM got the 2012 EICMA teaser game started early with the release of an audio clip called ‘Something is Growling in Austria’ of its new prototype. At idle, you get a hint of a lumping V-Twin cadence followed by raspy, angry revs. Guesses as to what it could be ranged from a 390 Duke to a new 1290 Super Duke.
KTM has now made the picture clearer after releasing the first few pictures of its new naked prototype. Dubbed “The Beast,” what is most likely the 1290 Super Duke will be powered by a 1290cc V-Twin housed in a new tubular frame mated to a new swingarm design. Throttle response will be dictated by a ride-by-wire system. Minimal angular bodywork with typical KTM acuteness shrouds the tank and the bars are mounted high and reachable. The chain driven naked Super Duke features WP suspension and Brembo brakes.
Full disclosure on KTM’s naked prototype will be made Tuesday, Nov. 13, during the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. Check back next week for a full first look report as well as plenty more good stuff coming out of Italy at EICMA 2012. Until then, here’s what information KTM has released on its 1290 prototype so far.
