By Motorcycle USA Staff

Touring demands that riders be prepared for whatever comes their way, whether it’s an unexpected downpour or flat tire. While seeing new locales is high on our list of things to do during the coming riding season, Motorcycle USA is hunkering down during the cold months to make sure we have everything in order beforehand. All that work has yielded some great gift ideas for this holiday season, which we proudly present in the 2012 Touring Motorcycle Gift Guide.

astars jacket
A-Stars pants.
Alpinestars RJ-5 Jacket and Pants.

Alpinestars RJ-5 Rain Jacket and Pants
If you are a touring rider then odds are you will get caught riding in the rain one day. The Alpinestars RJ-5 Rain Jacket Pants are one of the best wet-weather combos on the market and one of our preferred pieces of must-have gear. Our staff has used these on many occasions including torrential downpours on the Blue Ridge Parkway, surviving surprise winter rain storms on the west coast and even used them as backup riding gear during a few snowboarding expeditions. The pull-over design requires that you take your helmet off in order to gear-up so the RJ-5 hasn’t been lauded for its ease of use. It does look good and is designed to fit over the top of existing riding gear. A Velcro belt tightens up the jacket while elastic cuffs keep the sleeves tight against your gloves. The matching RJ-5 Rain Pants feature an elastic waist and zippered legs so you can cinch them nice and tight over almost any type of riding boot. The RJ-5 gear is constructed of a light nylon material so it rolls up nice and small for easy storage. It’s proven to be durable after repeated uses and is an easy gift that will pay dividends one day. – Ken Hutchison
