For more than a decade the Schwantz School has offered trackday instruction. It made its first appearance at Indy in 2009, and has previously hosted school events at Barber and Road Atlanta. Announcing the change via email and on the school’s website, Schwantz cited a drop in attendance rates and associated costs as reasons for the lighter schedule.
The only Schwantz School class confirmed for 2013 will be August 10-11. This event precedes the Indianapolis USGP, which takes place the following weekend, one of three MotoGP stops in America in 2013. USGP rounds will also be held at Laguna Seca and an inaugural Texas GP at the new Circuit of the Americas (COTA) near Austin.
A Texas native, Schwantz will notably not be holding class at COTA. A former driving force behind the Texas racetrack, the Grand Prix legend is now estranged from the project and embroiled in legal dispute with the circuit. Originally holding the promoters contract for MotoGP racing in Texas, Schwantz was controversially muscled out of the Texas GP. Dorna has since inked a separate deal with COTA to host the MotoGP series in 2013.
