hy·per [hahy-per] – Informal.
1. overexcited; overstimulated; keyed up.
2. seriously or obsessively concerned; fanatical; rabid.
The adjective fits Ducati’s second-generation Hypermotard and myself well as the day neared to ride the all-new supermoto/streetbike crossover. On Monday I got my chance to twist the grip to the stop and see what the 2013 Ducati Hypermotard was all about, and I left the track almost as hyper about the bike as I was before.
Ducati had a fleet of standard models for a short street ride and another complete contingent of SP models for track duty. The weather was less than optimal as an uncharacteristic cold snap descended on Southern Spain and the Ascari Race Resort. The roads were colder than ice in the morning street ride, but the sun warmed the track for the afternoon session, allowing for some serious shredding.
I fall in love easily, but I really do think this is my favorite Ducati ever. It fits my personal dirt-bike based riding style, but it is also at home leaned over to the max on a racetrack. Everywhere and anywhere, it is just fun, plain and simple. And that is what motorcycles should always be about, above all.
Check back Monday for my full review.
