Monster Energy AMA Supercross returned to Anaheim for the second of three rounds at Anaheim this season, and in the 250 SX class, Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac remains undefeated through three rounds. The Honda ace clawed his way to the top of the leader board late in the race, moving up past Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen and Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely following a start that left him running in third place. Roczen finished just over three seconds behind in second, while Seely rounded out the podium in third.

“I’m slowly stretching out that points lead,” said Tomac. “I’d like some more points right now, but you can’t ask for anything more than getting three wins this early in the season.

“It was a good battle, those guys are probably my two best competitors in the class right now. It made for good racing. I had some good lines out there and it was a fun race for sure.

Seely got off the start like a rocket, taking over the lead early in the race and holding there for the first half of the contest. He avoided an early race pile-up that took out the likes of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Martin Davalos and others, putting in fast laps to stay ahead of Roczen and Tomac. Both riders stayed well within reach of the lead through the early laps, but didn’t make their move to the front until the latter portion of the race.

Tomac moved into the lead with four laps remaining and Roczen made his move soon after, displacing Seely to third just before the checkers. All three riders had a comfortable gap on fourth-place finisher Zach Osborne of Geico Honda. Motoconcepts Honda’s Jake Canada finished in fifth, followed by Seely’s teammate Christian Craig in sixth. Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Jason Anderson took seventh with Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray close behind in eighth.

Tomac continues to hold the overall lead, sitting undefeated through three rounds. Roczen trails by nine points in second, followed by Seely in third, an addtional eight points back.
