The Thundersprint, which will be at the Anglesey Circuit on the 21 April, has attracted many stars during its 15 year history. There have been great world champions, and celebrities from the world of showbusiness and TV, but none can compare with Rolo – Anglesey’s, and probably the world’s, most intelligent sheep.

Rolo, named after her favourite confectionary, is famed throughout the world not only for her duck herding skills but also a breath-taking athleticism in which she jumps, completely unaided, over fences as high as six inches.

This truly remarkable sheep has starred at agricultural shows all over Britain – along with Master Shepherd Emlyn Roberts who rescued her as a new born, orphaned lamb. However, she is looking forward to the new challenge of starring at the Thundersprint.

Rolo, who lives at Gaerwen in Anglesey, said: “I’ve played some big gigs during my career, including Crufts in London, but the Thundersprint will be something new and very different.

“Most sheep of my age tend to prefer more modern bikes and personally I think the latest Yamaha R1 is stunning. However, I do like the classics too and the rounded lines of a Matchless G.50 fuel tank always remind me of a large turnip – which is my favourite winter snack.

“Not only will I be giving a demonstration of duck herding at lunch-time but I will be available all day for interviews and photographs. It’s going to be a baahhtastic day.”

Thundersprint organiser Frank Melling said: “We are deeply honoured to have Rolo at the Thundersprint – she truly is a remarkable sheep. We’re also delighted to have Emlyn Roberts join us. Emlyn is one of Wales’ great shepherds and quite literally taught Rolo all she knows.

“She, and Emlyn, will make a very special addition to the Thundersprint.”
