Andrew DeLong has won another GNCC victory this time at the Maxxis General. FMF Steele Creek in Morgantown NC is up next on April 6th allowing DeLong to rest up.
For the second time in a week, Andrew DeLong rode his powerful Fred Andrews Racing Factory Husqvarna to a victory in a GNCC race.
After winning in Florida earlier in the week, DeLong traveled north to Georgia and won the Pro XC2 class at The Maxxis General on a difficult track at Aonia Pass MX. Along with the trophy, DeLong qualified for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet bonus.
“It was a really rough, tough track,” DeLong said. “I think my physical conditioning came into play again this weekend. I was able to keep the bike up on two wheels and not fall too many times. That was key in taking this win. You have to get through the race and finish it to have a chance and if you’re not physically prepared for it, you’re in trouble.”
DeLong finished the course in 3 hours, 1 minute and 3.062 seconds, nearly 35 seconds ahead of the second-place rider Grant Baylor. Supercross star Zach Osborne was third, more than two minutes behind DeLong.
“I tried to get into a flow today but it was really hard,” DeLong said. “I made a point to try and save my energy for the whole race. I felt good all the way to the end of the race, but when I got off the bike I was pretty whooped. It was a demanding track.
“It’s been a great week. I’m happy with the way the season is starting and I’m pleased with the way I’ve been riding. Thanks to Motorcycle Superstore for their support. It helps a bunch.”
Up next for the GNCC series is the FMF Steele Creek, April 6-7 in Morganton, N.C.
