Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

AMA Pro SuperSport Race 2 at Daytona saw a lead pack that was 12 riders deep at times, with no clear leader as positions changed hands through every turn. In the end, RoadRace Factory’s Tomas Puerta was able to build a gap on the final lap and avoid being passed in the final turn to take the win. As with SuperSport Race 1, the finish for second and third was too close to call without official review, though once the results were in it was Napa Auto’s Charles Weaver claiming second and National Guard’s Corey Alexander in third.

Racers were still in the midst of Lap 1 when three riders crashed in the chicane, forcing a full restart. Arai Helmets’ Matt Sadowski and Pats Auto Sales’ Pat Mooney were unable to return to competition, though both left the incident unharmed.
After the restart, Team 95’s Hayden Gillim ran out to the front, but it was short lived as Puerta made a push for the lead.

Through the 10-lap contest Puerta, Gillim, CM Motorsports’ Jeffrey Tigert and Arai’s Sebastiao Ferreira all spent stretches in out front, while a number of others led for brief periods between turns or while coming off the high-banks of Daytona International Speedway. Puerta pushed hard as the event drew to a close and was able to take the win thanks to the gap he built during the final lap, changing-up his strategy from the previous day’s competition.

“Yesterday I was thinking about doing the same, trying to be in the lead on the last lap in the chicane but I changed my mind with two laps to go and everyone saw it didn’t work well for me,” said Puerta, who finished fifth in Race 1. “Today I wanted to be in the lead as much as I could so on the last lap I just put my head down and didn’t really care where they were on the last draft. I just kept pushing all the way to the finish line.”

Weaver enjoyed his first trip to the podium, the 20-year old rider blasting up the ranks late in the race after starting back in 13th.

“I just kept making my way forward and on the second to last lap caught the big lead group,” said Weaver. From there he held steady to claim the runner-up position.

CM Motorsports’ Jeffrey Tigert ended the day in fourth, followed by Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman in fifth. David Sedowski Jr. took sixth while Ferreira claimed seventh. Arai’s Miles Thornton took eighth, followed by Mar Del Auto’s Mark Miller Jr. and Houston Superbike’ sTravis Ohge in ninth and 10th respectively. rider Devon McDonough ended the day early, crashing out of competition in Turn 9 during the final laps.
