Motorcyclists seeking a premium riding experience will love BMWs F800GT. Its an expensive ride but it delivers in terms of sporting performance and comfort.
BMW Motorrad continues to enjoy growth through the first quarter of 2013, thanks to models like the F800GT.

BMW Motorrad has announced record-setting results with its first quarter figures. BMW Motorrad grew by 1.5% in Q1, selling 24,732 units world-wide, making it the best first quarter on record for the German marque.

Despite the gains, markets in Europe dwindled with an overall decline of 8.9% over the previous year. BMW’s quarterly report cites a longer winter as contributing to the fall. In Germany, there was a 2.1% decrease while in Italy sales fell by 19.3%. Sales in France declined by 8.2% through Q1, while in Great Britain they fell by 10.6% and in Spain they went down 20.7%.

Motorcycle sales in the United States, however, rose by 13.9% as did sales in Brazil (5.5%) and Japan (24.4%).
Overall production increased through the quarter to 35,221 units. BMW Motorrad’s workforce size decreased, with a 7.3% drop in employment owing to the sale of Husqvarna.

Even though there was an overall gain in sales, revenue was slightly down compared to the same period in 2012. For Q1 in 2013, BMW Motorrad revenue totaled 436 million Euro, whereas in 2012 the figure came in at 448 million Euro. EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes) gained by 37.8% to 51 million Euro, marking the best ever result for the propeller brand in Q1. The segment profit before tax also grew, up 35.1% at 50 million Euro.

Dr. Fredrich Eichiner, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Finance offered this assessment in a conference call shortly after the numbers were released (from transcript provided by BMW Motorrad).

“The segment delivered more motorcycles in the first quarter than ever before. BMW Motorrad’s motorcycle sales rose by 1.5% to more than 24,700 vehicles. Although European markets contracted, BMW Motorrad made gains in the US, Brazil and Japan.

“The Motorcycles segment had revenues of 436 million Euro, almost matching last year’s level. The segment EBIT reached a new high of 51 million Euro.

“Deconsolidation of Husqvarna was completed in March. For the full year, we anticipate higher year-on-year sales for BMW Motorrad – mainly thanks to the maxiscooters now fully available and the new F800GT and R1200GS models.”
