Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

California Superbike School’s Joe Roberts sealed up his perfect AMA Pro debut weekend in SuperSport, winning Race 2 at Barber by 3.6 seconds over Team 95’s Hayden Gillim. RoadRace Factory’s Tomas Puerta trailed Gillim by an achingly slim margin, 0.004 seconds, to finish third.

Gillim got a good jump off the line and took the lead in the opening lap, followed closely by Puerta and Roberts, who slotted into the number three spot. The Team 95 rider was able to hold the front through the initial laps, even pulling a slight gap on the field as riders entered Lap 3, but Roberts began to push up the ranks at the same point and moved into the runner-up spot before Lap 4. From there, the 16 year-old rider made short work of cutting Gillim’s advantage, moving to the lead soon after.

Once Roberts took over the lead, he maintained his quick pace and slowly distanced himself from the field. Gillim and Puerta fought hard to keep close to the young rider, but ended up in a fierce battle for second-place as the contest wound down. Coming out of the final turn, Gillim and Puerta were bar-to-bar after a back-and-forth final lap that ended with Gillim a hair’s-breadth ahead of the Colombian rider.

Meen Motorsports’ Wyatt Farris pushed his way up to fourth-place late in the race ahead of CTR Racing’s Miles Thornton. The CTR rider spent the early laps of the race battling with TOBC Racing’s Nick McFadden for fourth, but McFadden ended his day in the grass following a crash on Lap 12. National Guard’s Corey Alexander finished in sixth, prevailing after a multi-rider battle for the spot that was seven riders deep at times. Gearzy’s Ryan Matter trailed in seventh followed by’s Stefano Mesa in eighth and Harv’s Harley Davidson’s Travis Wyman in ninth. CWS’ Kaleb De Keyrel ended his AMA pro debut in 10th.

Mesa’s 8-8 finish was enough to keep him atop the SuperSport East division points tally, two points ahead of Alexander. Gillim remains third while Thornton moves up one spot to fourth, getting the best of Wyman by one point.
