BMW Motorrad claims improved sales through May of 2013, netting a 14.2% increase for the month compared to the same period in 2012. The German marque sold a total of 13,081 motorcycles worldwide in May 2013, adding to an already improved yearly total which reached 52,400 machines sold through the first five months of the year. At the end of May 2012, BMW Motorrad had logged sales of 48,918 units.

Sales in the United States were especially strong in May 2013, with 1809 units sold for the month, marking a 61.1% increase over May 2012. The achievement marks the best sales ever recorded for May in the U.S., upping the previous record set in 2005 by close to 170 units.

Popular models in the States include the new F800GS Adventure and F800GT, which together sold a total of 353 units. The K1600GTL and GT models were also well received but the most sought after model for the month was, unsurprisingly, the R1200GS. BMW reports 360 unit sales for the GS, which was completely redesigned for the 2013 model year – the most prominent change being its switch to liquid-cooling for the iconic Boxer Twin.
