Motorcycle-Superstore.com rider Jamie Lanza won the Juab Extreme Enduro in Utah.
Motorcycle-Superstore.com rider Jamie Lanza had heard good things about the Juab Extreme Enduro but had never seen or raced in the event until last weekend.
“Cory Graffunder told me about this race,” Lanza said. “I wasn’t racing X Games in Germany, so I thought I’d give it a shot. I really didn’t know what to expect at all.”
Lanza was more than pleasantly surprised when he arrived at the Juab County Fairgrounds and more than happy when he guided his 144 Husqvarna to victory.
“I was impressed by how professionally it was set up,” Lanza said. “This town isn’t very big. It has a population of around 5,000 people and there were close to 5,000 fans in the stands. It was pretty incredible to see people passionate about watching EnduroCross.
“It was in an outdoor arena, but the rest of the setup was spot on like an EnduroCross race. It was a challenging layout that was a lot of fun to ride.”
For Lanza, the event was a perfect training opportunity for his next EnduroCross race, the X Games finale in Los Angeles next month.
“We had practice during the day with our hot laps and heat races during the night,” Lanza said. “It was pretty much identical to what I’m used to with EnduroCross.”
During the race, Lanza earned the holeshot in the main event and jockeyed with rider David Pearson for the lead. Lanza found a comfortable rhythm, pulled ahead for good, and finished off the victory.
“I enjoy racing so much more than normal training,” Lanza said. “No matter how hard you try, you just don’t get into the same frame of mind practicing that you do during a race.
“We’ve got a couple of month-long breaks in the EnduroCross schedule, so it’s great to get out there and compete at races like this one.”
