Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Yamaha Extended Services Cameron Beaubier notched his fifth win of the season in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 1 at Mid-Ohio. The series points leader beat RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne by over four seconds at the checkers with Gagne’s teammate, JD Beach, trailing an additional three seconds back in third.

Beaubier slipped from pole position to sixth after Lap 1, but made short work of the field, regaining the lead within the first six laps. Gagne found his way to the front while Beaubier was making his charge up the ranks, and soon the two riders were swapping positions at the head of the pack. Beach clung to the two front-runners and held to third as they stretched a gap on the rest of the field.

Meen Motorsports’ Jake Lewis came across the finish in fourth followed by Beaubier’s teammate, Garrett Gerloff, in fifth. Geico Motorcycle’s Dane Westby and National Guard/Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli made up a four-rider pack that kept in close quarters for much of the race in the battle for fourth. Riders traded position on nearly every lap, but in the end Westby settled into sixth followed by Rispoli in seventh. Team Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo was involved in the fight for a top-five spot early on, but a mechanical failure forced the Triumph pilot to retire.

Beaubier now has a 35 point lead over Gagne. Beach sits third overall, 71 points adrift of the lead followed by Gerloff in fourth, a further seven points back.
