Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac took a commanding win in 250 Moto 1 at RedBud, running to the front within the opening turns and building an insurmountable gap on the field for the remainder of the race. Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen finished in second-place followed by his teammate, Marvin Musquin, in third.

Tomac’s teammate, Wil Hahn, grabbed the Holeshot but was quickly outpaced by the Colorado native. Hahn held in podium position for a period but slipped back as the Red Bull KTM duo pressed up the ranks. MyPlash’s Jeremy Martin was in the top-three mix early on as well, fighting with both Roczen and Musquin in the opening laps. The rookie rider maintained a successful defense in third-place but eventually slipped to fourth, where he’d hold to the finish.

Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely finished in fifth-place followed by Martin’s teammate, Cooper Webb, in sixth. Kyle Cunningham was the third MyPlash rider inside the top-10, finishing seventh, followed by defending Nationals champion Blake Baggett of Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki in eighth. Hahn fell back in the ranks throughout the contest, ending in ninth, with his teammate, Zach Osborne, rounding out the top-10.

Roczen grabbed the RedBud 250 overall thanks to his Moto 2 win, beating Tomac by seven seconds at the checkers. Martin made his first professional trip to the podium in third.

Martin was fastest off the start, taking the Motorcycle Superstore holeshot by a hair ahead of Osborne. The Honda rider moved past Martin for the early lead, which he maintained for close to six minutes before Roczen found a line past. In the opening lap Osborne held off Martin and Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo, who settled into second and third respectively, with Musquin, Roczen and Tomac challenging from behind. Cianciarulo hit an early snag though, hitting a ledge as he approached the face of a jump, leaning too far right and coming off the bike. The field was still tightly packed and he was forced to stand off track until everyone passed before he could recover his machine.

Roczen moved past his teammate and then picked-off Martin as well and soon after got Osborne for the lead. The German rider proceeded to push for a gap because Tomac was closing in as well, challenging Osborne for the runner up spot. Tomac was able to pass his teammate, but while coming out of the turn the Moto 1 winner went down, causing Osborne to hit the dirt as well. Tomac was buried under Osborne’s bike and fell back to ninth-place once he was finally able to remount. The Honda ace charged hard for the rest of the competition, making up significant ground to reclaim second-place with just under five minutes remaining. Roczen had gapped the field by over 10 seconds at that point and remained steady to take the win.

Musquin was on Martin’s rear tire for much of the race, challenging for podium position, but was unable to get past and finished in fourth-place. Osborne took fifth followed by Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson in sixth and Tomac’s teammate, Justin Bogle, in seventh. Cunningham finished eighth with Webb trailing in ninth and Baggett in 10th.

Roczen maintains the overall points lead, seven ahead of Tomac in second. Musquin sits third followed by Baggett in fourth and Osborne in fifth.
