AMA Pro Road Racing kicked-off its weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park with practice and qualifying sessions in National Guard SuperBike, GoPro Daytona SportBike and SuperSport.

Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes earned SuperBike provisional pole ahead of his teammate, Josh Herrin, ending the day as the only rider to dip into the 1’20 range. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas sits third on the provisional grid.

Hayes spent most of the qualifying session in the 1’22s, but on his 15th lap the Mississippi native recorded his best effort of the day. The defending SuperBike champion is looking to make up ground in the battle for this year’s title following a disappointing round at Miller Motorsports Park the last time out. Herrin currently leads the series and sits 16 points ahead of Hayes.

National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden finished fourth-fastest followed by his teammate, Danny Eslick, in fifth. Team Hero’s Geoff May ended the day in sixth while KTM/HMC duo Chris Fillmore and Taylor Knapp took seventh and eighth, respectively.
