East Troy, Wisconsin-based Erik Buell Racing has announced it will reveal a brand new street-legal sportbike during the 2013 AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida. Dubbed the 1190RX, the new mount sources its powerplant from the current 1190RS and, according to company PR, also shares “many of EBR’s exclusive performance and handling-enhancing features, it is a new design created to tame the wildest roads and rouse the most demanding riders.” Unfortunately, that’s as detailed as specifics get so far regarding the new machine.
“This is the culmination of decades of dedication, innovation and teamwork,” said EBR founder Erik Buell. “We have been working to create a pure rider’s machine and a true world brand. From the heartland and the heart of America, these are extraordinary motorcycles that discerning riders everywhere will be passionate to own.”
After the 2009 split with Harley-Davidson, Buell set out to continue his work developing an American-made sportbike with Erik Buell Racing. By late 2010 EBR had developed the 1190RS, announced plans to field an EBR team in the AMA Pro Road Racing series and make the mount available to the public. EBR came through with a production RS for the 2012 model year, but only 100 were made and the price tag was
upwards of 40-grand.
Later in 2012 EBR announced its partnership with Indian motorcycle giant Hero MotoCorp and secured GE capital financing to expand its dealer network in the U.S. On October 16th we’ll see if these partnerships yield a more affordable and accessible mount in the RX. Stay tuned…
At the 2011 Indy Dealer Show, Erik Buell Racing debuted its 1190RS sportbike, which features a bored-out Rotax Twin engine and a slimmer profile than the Buell 1125R.
