Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez demolished the previous lap record at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on the way to his sixth pole position of the season. Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo finished second-fastest while Lorenzo’s teammate, Valentino Rossi, will start from third on the grid.

Marquez has been fastest in every session he’s contested at Misano so far, and on his final flying lap of Q2 became the first rider to dip into the 1’32 range at the circuit. The rookie had a scare earlier in the day, low-siding in the final Free Practice session and sliding into the gravel. He was quick to his feet and came out of the incident unharmed.

Though Lorenzo was faster than all but one on the grid, he will continue to seek solutions to set-up problems he’s experienced during the weekend in order to keep pace with Marquez.

“I expected to struggle less this weekend and go faster than last year but I couldn’t be faster and I couldn’t improve the bike so much,” said Lorenzo. “We improved a little but not enough to be closer to Marc. He made an amazing lap. We are struggling to stop the bike in braking and we have more spinning than normal in acceleration, which is why the lap time is not great. I will try to make a good start tomorrow and maybe the best strategy is to follow Marc and see how our performance is during the race.”

Rossi, however, has struggled with qualifying all season and has only been on the front row once before his performance at Misano. Posting the third-fastest lap time is a welcome change for the Doctor and he goes into Sunday’s race confident with his bike and with his chances to contend for a podium.

Marquez’s teammate, Dani Pedrosa, moved to the top of the second row late in Q2 and is joined by Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow in fifth. Crutchlow has been unable to find his groove in Misano, and for the first time this season he was forced to battle for a spot in Q2 during Q1.

“It has not been an easy weekend at all and having to go into QP1 for the first time this season was proof of that,” said Crutchlow. “So considering how difficult it has been I am really pleased to be starting on the second row of the grid. This afternoon was much better and as I always do, I managed to pull something out of the bag in qualifying. I am always strong in this situation but I really had to be today to get myself out of trouble.”

Top CRT rider Aleix Espargaro of Power Electronics Aspar trailed Crutchlow in sixth. Espargaro has been in prime form all weekend, posting top-10 lap times in almost every session, earning a bid straight through to Q2 after his performance in practice and placing well within the prototype pack in the battle for position on the grid.

LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl will start from seventh and is followed by Go & Fun Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista in eighth and Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso in ninth. Dovi’s teammate, Nicky Hayden, finished 10th-fastest.
