Previously held in Indianapolis, Indiana, the 2014 Dealer Expo moves to Chicago to draw larger attendance numbers.
In light of declining turn-out over recent years, the 2014 Dealer Expo is introducing some big changes to help generate better attendance from dealers, retailors and exhibitors.
First is a change of venue, moving from the longtime location in Indianapolis, Indiana to McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. The massive convention center in the Windy City boasts 2.6 million square feet of exhibit halls, 170 meeting rooms and 600,000 square feet of meeting room space. Advanstar Powersports Group, the organizer of the Dealer Expo, has also changed the date from mid-February to December 5-7, 2014.
Advanstar has sought to bolster interest in the Dealer Expo and may be feeling even more urgency to do so in light of a new competitor, the AIMExpo, which hosts its inaugural event mid-October 2013. They’re looking to boost educational opportunities for dealers at the 2014 Dealer Expo and to offer an event that doesn’t conflict with the traditional riding season or other yearly events.
The announcement made by Advanstar cites Polk Research, claiming that Chicago “is the third-largest U.S. metropolitan market for on-highway motorcycle registrations,” and that the bigger market will help to generate greater participation. The change to late in the fourth-quarter is also suggested to align more with recent shifts in dealer buying trends as they work to fill out inventories for the coming season.
