The violent altercation between a biker group and SUV motorist in New York City has gained national media attention. Onboard video on the incident (embedded below), captured by one of the riders and posted online, has gone viral with more than 5 million views on YouTube. The incident has since been picked up by major news outlets, including CNN and the broadcast networks and morning shows.

Video shows riders from a group called “Hollywood Stuntz” riding through New York. The altercation occurs between the riders and a black Range Rover driven by Alexian Lien, with the driver’s wife and two-year-old daughter passengers in the SUV. Travelling on Manhattan’s West Side Highway, one of the riders slows down in front of the SUV, which in turn collides with the bike.

At a full stop, the situation escalates as riders surround the SUV. Reports state that the SUV tires were slashed, with Lien fleeing the scene – running over bikes and the riders. One of these riders was reputed to be severely injured in the maneuver, in critical condition and likely paralyzed.

After another attempt by the rider to open the car on the highway, the SUV is eventually later stopped on a Manhattan surface street. Some of the chasing bikers then attack the SUV, breaking the window, at which point the onboard video stops.

Liens was subsequently assaulted. Photographs show Liens lying bloodied and prone on the ground, having been pulled from the SUV and beaten in front of his family.

New York Prosecuters have filed charges against one rider in the assault, for reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing. Another rider, who slowed down in front of the SUV and was hit, is reportedly charged reckless endangerment, reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child.

The driver, Liens, has not been charged. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly is quoted on camera saying of the potential charges for the driver. “It depends on whether or not the vehicle was being attacked, or whether or not you think you’re being attacked, whether or not your wife and child is in the car. You have to look at the totality of the circumstances, and that is what we’ll do.”

The riding group, Hollywood Stuntz, was already on the NYPD radar as a similar ride last year saw bikers descend on Times Square. Several news sources, including CNN, site multiple violations during this year’s ride, including 15 arrests and 55 bike seizures.

Several facts continue to draw out. For example one of the riders seen punching the SUV window is not being charged, as police believe he may have tried to help Liens. There are also more onboard videos surfacing attributed the Hollywood Stuntz group ride.
