The current platform is in its fourth year of production (read about it in the 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 First Ride) and while we’re big fans of its easily attainable performance, Kawasaki wants to hone in on the riding experience between man and machine. Specifically it will give the bike a stronger character—similar to what European brands Ducati, MV Agusta and Triumph are known for.
“The new Z1000 delivers an increase in overall performance combined with an emotional spirit which will appeal to riders looking for a motorcycle with a strong, discernible character in terms of both looks and riding feel,” describes Keishi Fukumoto, Kawasaki’s Head of Motorcycle Design.
The goal says Fukumoto, is to incorporate the natural energy of a “crouching predator” with the engineering might of the multi-faced Japanese industrial giant (remember, Kawasaki also builds aircraft for the aerospace industry) offering riders the most high-performance streetfighter on the market.
Engineers will have their work cut out for them based on the results of both the 2010 Streetfighter Shootout IV and 2011 Streetfighter Shootout, in which Ducati’s comparable offering outgunned the green machine despite it being more demanding to ride at an elevated street pace.
