BMW Releases Upspec K1600GTL Exclusive

BMW has announced an updated version of its top-tier luxury tourer, the K1600 GTL, for 2014. The BMW K1600 GTL Exclusive adds a number of aesthetic enhancements, updated technology and passenger comforts to the standard platform, which first hit markets back in 2010.

Built around BMW’s liquid-cooled 1649cc Inline-Six, the Exclusive also retains a number of electronic features found on the standard GTL. Three riding modes, traction control and electronic suspension adjustment come standard as well as BMW Motorrad Integral ABS.

The Exclusive enhances touring quality with an enlarged seat area for passengers. The pillion seat has been widened and lengthened and comes with standard armrests. The backrest has been enlarged as well and the upper section of the seat is heated.

The ignition system is updated with a new Keyless Ride system, included for the first time on a BMW motorcycle. Riders simply push the ignition button when the key is within a 6.5-foot or less range to release the steering lock and hold the button a moment longer to fire up the bike. Pushbutton controls on the transponder unlock the fuel filler flap and operate the central locking and anti-theft systems as well.

Also included on the Exclusive is BMW’s Hill Start Control “which allows riders to remain stopped on uphill slopes with the engine running without having to keep the brake lever pressed.”

The Exclusive utilizes a radio film antenna installed between the inner lining of the top-case lid and the painted outer shell. BMW asserts that reception quality has not been sacrificed. The new tourer also employs an adaptive xenon headlight. The low beam adjusts to the lean angle of the motorcycle and pitch leveling is engaged during braking and acceleration. LED auxiliary headlights sit at the sides below the fairing to enhance the front beam.

Topping off the aesthetics of the K1600 GTL Exclusive is a new four-coat Mineral white high gloss paint finish on the main body, accented by Magnesium metallic matte and Glacier silver metallic colors.

There’s no MSRP or release date yet, though the standard 2013 K1600 GTL sold for more than $23,000 USD.
